The easiest way to do this is to just get rid of the app. You’ll have to ignore Messenger if you want to keep using Facebook as a social media site without it. While your account is deactivated, you won’t be able to use Facebook at all, not even Oculus services. If you turn off your account, you can turn it back on later by logging in. Putting your Facebook account on hold is different from deleting it. There is no way to turn off Messenger without first turning off your Facebook account. You can always turn on your account again by going back to Messenger and signing in.
